How I’m Building a Side Hustle While Working a Full-Time Government Job and Raising a Toddler

June 24, 2025 | by shivraj.shekhawat8@gmail.com

Balancing a full-time government job, a 3-hour daily commute, and raising a 3-year-old child is no small feat. But like many others, I’ve started feeling the urge to do something more—something of my own. This blog is my first step toward that goal.

👨‍💼 My Daily Reality

My workday starts at 9:15 AM and ends at 6:00 PM. Add 3 hours of commuting, and I’m left with very little time for myself or my family. Still, I’ve decided to carve out time—early mornings, late evenings, and weekends—to build a side hustle that could one day give me more freedom.

🎯 Why I Want a Side Hustle

  • 💰 Financial freedom – I want to create an additional income stream.
  • 🎨 Creative outlet – I miss learning and creating.
  • 🕊️ Future flexibility – I want to spend more time with my family without worrying about money.

🧩 My Plan (And How You Can Start Too)

  1. Start small – I’m exploring content writing and online tutoring—things I can do from home with minimal investment.
  2. Use spare time wisely – I dedicate 1–2 hours daily to learning and working on my side hustle.
  3. Be consistent – Even 1 hour a day adds up over time.
  4. Learn in public – This blog is my way of sharing what I learn, what works, and what doesn’t.

💡 What’s Next?

In the coming weeks, I’ll share:

  • How I manage my time
  • Tools and platforms I use
  • Mistakes I make and lessons I learn

If you’re in a similar situation—juggling work, family, and dreams—I hope this blog helps you feel less alone and more inspired.
